Webinar: Engage, Enrich, and Empower Student Discovery with Primary Sources
Tuesday, March 26, 2019
7:00pm ET / 4:00pm PT

The Library of Congress has digitized and made available online, for free, millions of historical primary sources in multiple formats. These represent untold opportunities for exploration and discovery, but finding the way can be daunting. This hands-on session will suggest some starting places and strategies for empowering students to ask questions and seek answers in the collections. Participants will apply select strategies to visual images and informational text and then reflect together on ways to employ the strategies in their own classrooms.

Presenters:
Cheryl Lederle, an Educational Resources Specialist at the Library of Congress, works to advance the Library's educational mission by providing professional development, both in person and via webinar. She has played a significant role in shaping the Library's online repository of classroom materials and resources for teachers, loc.gov/teachers, and continues to contribute to the development of those materials. She has fifteen years' experience teaching English at both the high school and community college levels.

Kaleena Black is an Educational Resources Specialist at the Library of Congress, where she works mainly to develop educational programs for the K-18 community, in order to share the unique, rich resources found at the Library. She also works in outreach, contributing to Library of Congress social media channels, including the Teaching with Primary Sources Twitter feed and blog. She previously worked on the World Digital Library project at the Library of Congress, and holds a Master of Education in International Education Policy.
