The National Social Studies Leaders Association is dedicated to empowering and supporting educational leaders who are creating effective, inclusive, and equitable systems that advance the teaching and learning of PK-12 social studies.
We promote the interest of social studies leaders engaged in instruction, curriculum and material development, research, pre and in-service training of teachers, and social action. NSSLA encourages and assists in the development of high-quality leadership practices which result in the improvement of social studies instruction.
Who should join?
NSSLA encourages any member of NCSS who identifies as a Social Studies Leader to join in our work. Membership is open to supervisors, administrators, department chairs, teachers, and others who are members of NCSS and have or aspire to assist in the development, implementation, and supervision of social studies curriculum and instructional programs.
What are the benefits?
- Members receive a newsletter and a directory which is revised annually to include the Constitution, current address of all members and a position statement adopted by the organization.
- A full convention day at the NCSS Annual Conference is planned to include the latest trends and information designed to assist social studies supervisors in the rapidly changing educational setting.
- A network of social studies leaders who can provide support in a wide number of specialized areas.
